Greensboro is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Greensboro follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. I was told this was the place for pho in Greensboro. Supposedly life-changing. Transcendent. Worth a 1.5-hour drive. So naturally, I packed up my hopes, dreams, and a full tank of gas and made the pilgrimage. Big mistake. First off, the service felt like a buddy cop movie where one cop actually wants to help you and the other is actively annoyed you exist. One server was lovely. The other acted like I’d personally wronged them by ordering food at a restaurant. Then we get to the basil situation. Or should I say, the lack of basil situation. When I asked where it was, I was told it’s β€œout of season.” Basil. Out. Of. Season. What is this, a medieval village? Did the basil harvest fail this year? (I confirmed that this is a false statement - basil is abundant at other locations that serve pho…). Meanwhile, they’re out here casually swapping lime for lemon like no one will notice. I half expected them to tell me the noodles were β€œon backorder.” The pho itself? Fine. Just… fine. Not legendary, not memorable, not worth the gas money. The broth tasted like it had commitment issues; weak, watered down, and afraid of flavor. The meat was stringy and questionable, like it lost a fight be

This place has a very beautiful atmosphere, when you walk in your blown away by the amazing looks and style to this place. I was assisted to my seat very quickly and given menus. I was able to take my sweet time looking at the menu as the waiter was very nice and patient with us taking our time to look through all the menu options, the prices are reasonable and affordable. The food is delicious and the presentation was very beautifully done. I ordered the duck and pork, it was fresh and was grilled with open flame to perfection. The pork had nice crispy fat chunks in it that explodes in your mouth with so much flavor. The duck is just out of this world! It was worth every penny to try out. The Owner is a very beautiful woman who is charming. She gave us spring rolls to try out and they were made with fresh ingredients and tasted good as a spring roll should. I am very pleased with this place and will be coming back in the future.

Van Loi II, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, stands out as one of the authentic and flavorful Vietnamese restaurants in our town. It proudly offers an exceptional rendition of Pho, the renowned Vietnamese noodle soup. The service quality varies based on the cashier, with some demonstrating remarkable speed and attentiveness, while others fall short. However, the establishment is situated in a questionable neighborhood, which may give some diners pause. Additionally, improved ventilation and more rigorous cleaning practices would enhance the overall dining experience. For optimal freshness, I recommend avoiding weekday visits.
